SeroquelTM (quetiapine): Groundbreaking New Data Shows
Efficacy in Depressive Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder
FIRST PRESENTATION OF BOLDER STUDY RESULTS AT APA MEETING.
Ground-breaking new data on the effect of the antipsychotic medication Seroquel (quetiapine) on the depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder, which could have a major impact on the future management of one of the most common severe mental illnesses, will be presented today at the world’s foremost psychiatry meeting, the Congress of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) is a complex illness that affects over two percent of the UK population. In recent months new medications have been introduced to treat the manic symptoms associated with the condition. A key question has also been their effect on the potentially life-threatening depressive symptoms of the illness which, thus far, have needed to be treated with additional medications.
To coincide with the first ever presentation of this new data, AstraZeneca (UK) is web-casting the UK media briefing to medical journalists with an interest in the area.
